Symbolic Features
Orientation: The prayer mat usually includes a design that subtly indicates the direction of the Qibla, the direction towards the Kaaba in Mecca, which is the holiest site in Islam. This is often depicted through a Mihrab, a semi-arched shape that represents the niche found in mosques, signaling the direction to face when praying.
Decorative Elements: The mats can feature geometric patterns, floral motifs, or calligraphy, which may include religious verses such as Bismillah or other words of Islamic significance. However, the emphasis is often on simplicity, as the primary focus during prayer is on the act of worship, not on the adornment.
